What Happens During a LipiFlow Treatment at Williamsburg Eye Care?

What Happens During the Procedure?

LipiFlow is performed in our Williamsburg office. A sterile, single-use activator is carefully positioned over and under the eyelids. The device is designed to protect the surface of the eye while delivering heat to the inner eyelids, directly where the meibomian glands are located.

At the same time, gentle pulsating pressure is applied to the outer eyelids. The heat softens hardened oils, while the pressure helps move the blockages out of the glands. This process treats the upper and lower eyelids without requiring surgery, needles, or medication.

The active treatment takes approximately 12 minutes. You may feel heat and light pressure during the session, but the treatment is designed with patient comfort in mind. Our team remains available throughout the procedure and monitors your experience.

What Should You Expect After LipiFlow?

Once the treatment is complete, you can typically return to your usual daily activities. The glands need time to resume healthier oil production, so changes in eye comfort may develop gradually rather than immediately.

LipiFlow does not replace ongoing dry eye management.
