Spectacle Lenses

Single Vision Lenses

Single vision lenses have one focal point which may be set for any distance.

Bifocal Lenses

Bifocal lenses have two focal points, with the top typically set for distance viewing, the bottom set for near. There is no focal point for intermediate distance without giving up vision at distance or near. Bifocal lenses are analogous to a staircase, where the top steps are for distance viewing and the bottom steps are for near viewing. There is a void in the middle.

Trifocal Lenses

Trifocal lenses provide three focal points, allowing vision at distance, intermediate and near. These lenses provide the middle steps in the staircase analogy.

Progressive Addition Lenses (PAL)

Progressive lenses, or no-line bifocals, are multi-focal lenses providing vision at all distances without cosmetically viewable lines, seen in bi- and trifocal lenses. In continuing with the staircase analogy, progressive lenses provide a ramp of vision and are most similar to our natural vision prior to losing the ability to focus.

Mid and High Index Lenses

The “index of refraction” of a material is determined by how fast it bends light. The higher the index of refraction the thinner and lighter lenses become. Mid-index materials such as polycarbonate and Trivex offer impact resistance as well as thinner and lighter lenses.

Anti-Reflective Lenses

AR lenses allow nearly 10% more light to enter the eye by reducing glare and reflection from lights, including overhead lights and glare from computers and headlights. AR lenses also reduce external glare and reflection, allowing our eyes to be seen by those we interact with.

Transition® Lenses

Transition® lenses are photochromic lenses that darken in the presence of harmful ultra violet light. Transition® lenses are a great option for anyone interested UV protection and reducing sensitivity to light in one pair of lenses. They are recommended for both children and adults.

Polarized Lenses

Polarized lenses are a specific sun-lens that reduces horizontal glare and reflections, particularly those from water and windshields. Polarized lenses offer comfort in harsh viewing environments.
